Netflix has exciting news for fans of the acclaimed video game Sifu. The streaming giant has teamed up with the game's creators to bring its compelling narrative to the big screen. Initially announced in 2022, the film adaptation was being spearheaded by Story Kitchen in collaboration with Sloclap, the developers behind Sifu. Netflix has enlisted T.S. Nowlin, renowned for his work on the Maze Runner series and Netflix's Project Adam, to craft the screenplay. While Derek Kolstad, who was initially tasked with adapting Sifu's story, may still be involved, his exact role in the project remains uncertain at this time.
The production team is further bolstered by the addition of Chad Stahelski, the acclaimed director of the John Wick franchise, and his production company, 87Eleven Entertainment, who will serve as executive producers. Stahelski is also currently involved in another high-profile video game adaptation, Ghost of Tsushima, which adds to the anticipation surrounding his involvement with Sifu.
Released in 2022, Sifu quickly captured the gaming world's attention, selling over one million copies within just three weeks of its launch. The game's plot follows a young martial artist on a quest for vengeance following the murder of their master. Equipped with a mystical pendant that resurrects them upon death—but ages them several years with each revival—the protagonist navigates a perilous journey filled with danger and intrigue.
