Nintendo Cracks Down on Switch 2 Scalpers

By JonathanFeb 21,2025

Nintendo is prepared to combat Switch 2 launch shortages and scalpers, stating, "We are making preparations." Following its latest financial report, President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about a repeat of the original Switch's 2017 launch shortages. He assured Nikkei (as translated by VGC) that Nintendo will implement comprehensive strategies based on past experience to mitigate issues related to scalpers and supply constraints.

These preparations likely involve significantly increased Switch 2 production. Furukawa reiterated a previous statement emphasizing sufficient production to meet demand as the primary strategy against scalpers. He also stated that unlike previous years, component shortages are no longer a significant concern.

A dedicated Switch 2 Direct is scheduled for April 2nd, promising further details. Hands-on events will also be held globally.

Addressing declining Switch sales, Furukawa downplayed the impact of consumers delaying purchases in anticipation of the Switch 2, attributing the lower-than-target sales to other factors. Nintendo plans to continue supporting the original Switch as long as demand persists, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond slated for 2025 release.
