Following this morning's Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling, rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality seem increasingly plausible.
The reveal trailer shows detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface. They connect to flat-bottomed connectors and move like a mouse on a mousepad. A slider pad is visible on one connector, further supporting this theory.
Pre-reveal speculation suggested this capability, citing a mouse-like sensor inside the Joy-Cons. However, Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications. Fans envision uses in mouse-and-keyboard-friendly games like Civilization, or innovative applications within Nintendo's first-party titles. The possibilities remain open.
While details on mouse support and the new Joy-Con button remain unclear, we know the console is called the Nintendo Switch 2, launching in 2025, and a new Mario Kart is in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is confirmed, with further software announcements expected in an April Direct. Stay updated on all our Nintendo Switch 2 coverage here.
