Some individuals have reportedly accessed a Nintendo Switch 2 console ahead of its official release, despite Nintendo's efforts to prevent leaks. However, the console requires a day-one patch to function, and the leaked video was quickly removed due to a copyright claim.
An eight-second YouTube video, seen by IGN but later taken down for copyright reasons, was posted by user Ali Almarzooqi. It showed what appeared to be a Nintendo Switch 2 box being opened, revealing the console wrapped in plastic. The footage only displayed the hardware inside the box.
If the video is a hoax, it’s a highly convincing one. The prompt copyright action from anti-piracy firm Web Capio suggests it may be authentic. However, the poster noted that the console’s legitimacy can’t be verified until June 5, as it reportedly requires a launch-day update to operate:

Deals tracker Wario64 reported that another individual shared photos of a Nintendo Switch 2 in their possession. When they attempted to play a Switch 1 game, they received a message: "Please connect to the internet and update your system."
While these could be elaborate fakes, their authenticity may soon be confirmed if either individual shares a full unboxing or displays the system’s update prompt. Until then, such leaks offer the only early glimpses of Nintendo’s next console.
Until June 5, we rely on Nintendo’s official updates to understand the full Nintendo Switch 2 experience. So far, we’ve tested Mario Kart World on the system, and recent details include free performance boosts for Switch 1 games, support for variable refresh rates, and GameChat features requiring phone number verification. Although pre-orders sold out rapidly last month, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser assures ample console supply through the holiday season.
