"Oblivion Remastered's Top Mod Boosts PC Performance"

By SavannahMay 16,2025

If you're among the countless enthusiasts of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC, you may have encountered its fair share of technical challenges. According to the tech gurus at Digital Foundry, Oblivion Remastered is plagued with severe performance issues. Video producer Alex Battaglia went as far as to label it "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."

Battaglia elaborated, "Even if you're running the most powerful hardware available, the stuttering is egregious, significantly detracting from the gaming experience to a point where it's baffling how it was deemed acceptable for release." He further noted that the game is unusually demanding on system resources, suggesting that players might need to lower settings just to maintain a playable frame rate.

PlayGiven these issues, it's no surprise that the top-downloaded mod for Oblivion Remastered on Nexus Mods is P40L0’s 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),' with an impressive 386,604 downloads in less than a week.

The mod's description reads: "Definitive Unreal ‘Engine.ini’ changes with the goal to remove most stutters, improve performance and stability, decrease input latency, improve picture clarity. All with no visual loss."

P40L0, the mod's creator, shared, "After months of UE5 testing, I would like to share my definitive custom ‘Engine.ini’ changes for the game. My goal was to incorporate as many optimizations as possible (for CPU/GPU/RAM/SSD) to eliminate most stuttering, enhance performance, reduce input latency, and improve picture clarity (by removing Film Grain & Chromatic Aberration, optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more) without compromising visual quality or causing glitches or crashes."

Feedback from users who have tried the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. Chubbyd07 exclaimed, "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" Yeeto51 reported, "This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes)." BabaSmith was equally impressed, stating, "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!"

Despite the PC version's challenges, Oblivion Remastered continues to enjoy widespread popularity, boasting a significant peak concurrent player count on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. It maintains a 'very positive' user review rating on Steam.

However, a recent hotfix released on April 25 has disrupted the UI settings for graphics, specifically affecting upscaling and anti-aliasing for Microsoft Store players, including those using Game Pass for PC. These players currently cannot adjust these settings due to the issue with the settings UI. Bethesda has acknowledged the problem and is working on a solution.
