The excitement for Star Wars fans is building as Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac is set to make an official appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo, taking place from April 18 to 20. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, has ignited speculation about the possible return of Isaac's character, Poe Dameron, to the Star Wars universe. This buzz is fueled by the precedent set at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, announced her involvement in an upcoming Star Wars film.
The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker. Since then, Isaac's stance on returning to the franchise has evolved. Initially expressing reluctance in 2020, suggesting he'd only come back if he needed "another house or something," Isaac later softened his position by 2022, telling Variety he was "open to anything." Despite his criticism of Disney for rejecting his pitch for a romance between Poe and Finn, played by John Boyega, Isaac's openness has kept fans hopeful.
Speculation is rife about the potential return of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio in the upcoming Rey film, set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, where Rey aims to rebuild the Jedi Order. Daisy Ridley has expressed her wish for Boyega to join her, and with Poe completing the trio, Isaac's return seems plausible. Fans might get definitive answers at Star Wars Celebration 2025, but otherwise, they'll have to wait as Disney continues to delay its slate of Star Wars films. The Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is currently eyeing a release as early as December 17, 2027.
