PlayStation Logo Pops Up on Work-in-Progress Starfield Creation, Sparking PS5 Release Speculation

By ChloeApr 15,2025

Speculation that Starfield will soon be confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 has intensified over the weekend after eagle-eyed fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo was spotted on a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, which, despite being removed, has fueled rumors that Bethesda’s currently PC and Xbox-exclusive sci-fi title is gearing up for a PS5 launch.

A Reddit user pointed out the discovery, noting, "They have added the Playstation logo to a creation. (I think they are beta testers, the logo only appears on one creation)." This has led the community to speculate about Bethesda's plans, particularly whether a significant content update or even a new expansion might be in the works to coincide with Starfield's potential PS5 release.

The conversation around Starfield has been quiet in recent months, especially following the lukewarm reception to the Shattered Space expansion. However, Bethesda's parent company, Microsoft, is expected to host another summer showcase, which could be the perfect platform to reveal more about Starfield's future.

Bethesda has hinted at "exciting things" planned for Starfield in 2024, amidst growing frustration from players over the lack of communication and updates. In June 2024, the studio reaffirmed its commitment to Starfield, announcing at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. Todd Howard, in an interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, expressed Bethesda's intention to release an annual story expansion for Starfield "for hopefully a very long time."

IGN's review of Starfield awarded it a 7/10, praising its expansive roleplaying quests and solid combat mechanics.

In January, Microsoft's gaming chief, Phil Spencer, did not dismiss the possibility of Starfield coming to PS5. Reports from as early as March 2024 suggested that both Starfield and MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were being considered for PS5. While Indiana Jones was confirmed for PS5 with a spring 2025 release, Starfield has yet to receive official confirmation for the platform, though Spencer's comments have kept the rumors alive.

Several Xbox titles are already available on PS5, including Rare's Sea of Thieves, Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush, and Obsidian's Grounded and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Additionally, Playground's Forza Horizon 5 is set to come to PS5 soon. There are even whispers that Microsoft might finally bring Halo to PlayStation, breaking decades of Xbox exclusivity.

Spencer has explained that Xbox's multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to increase revenue for Microsoft's gaming division, especially after the monumental $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. In an interview last August, Spencer stated, "We run a business... It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company. Because we get a level of support from the company that’s just amazing and what we’re able to go do. So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It’s just going to be a strategy that works for us."

Bethesda Game Studios, currently managing a workforce of 450 across five teams working on Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile projects, and external development partnerships, is navigating a busy period.
