Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Pokemon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Announcements Expected

Don't expect any news regarding Switch 2 Pokemon titles during the upcoming Pokemon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 reveal, it appears the Pokemon franchise will remain on the original Switch for the time being. The focus of the presentation will likely be on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Despite the unannounced but confirmed existence of the Switch 2 (backward compatible with the original Switch and featuring account carryover), details remain scarce, primarily sourced from leaks suggesting a performance upgrade rather than a radical redesign.

While future Pokemon games are undoubtedly slated for the Switch 2, insider reports indicate that the February 27th Pokemon Presents will showcase titles developed for the original Switch, leveraging the new console's backward compatibility.

Focus on Existing Titles and Pokemon Legends: Z-A

The upcoming Pokemon Presents will almost certainly feature updates on ongoing live-service titles like Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. Significant attention is expected to be given to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year. While a teaser trailer hinted at a Lumiose City setting, returning Pokemon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, much remains unknown.

Rumors also suggest another mainline Pokemon game is in the works for this year, separate from Legends: Z-A and Generation 10. Speculation points towards Pokemon Black and White remakes or a new Let's Go installment, both supposedly destined for the original Switch, not the Switch 2. This suggests that Generation 10 titles might be the first major Pokemon releases exclusive to the Switch 2.

This strategy aligns with past Pokemon releases. Recall that Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 launched on the original DS, not the 3DS. History, it seems, might be repeating itself.

However, until the February 27th Pokemon Presents, all of this remains unconfirmed speculation. Tune in to find out for sure.
