Mark your calendars for the Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event, which kicks off on Wednesday, January 29 at 10:00 a.m. and runs through to Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. This festive period coincides with the game's ninth anniversary and is part of a series of exciting updates and events planned for the year, leading up to the summer and Pokemon GO Fest.
What to Expect During the Event
During the Lunar New Year event, players will benefit from several bonuses:
- Increased Chance for Lucky Pokemon: Trades during the event will have a higher chance of resulting in Lucky Pokemon, and the likelihood of becoming Lucky Friends will also be boosted.
- More Frequent Wild Encounters: Keep an eye out for Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini appearing more frequently in the wild. Shiny variants of these Pokemon will also be more common.
- Egg Hatches: Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will hatch from 2 km Eggs.
Research Tasks and Rewards
Engage in Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research tasks, along with Routes, to earn Stardust, XP, and encounters with event-themed Pokemon. Additionally, participating in Routes will grant you Zygarde Cells. For those looking to maximize their rewards, a special Paid Timed Research is available for $2, offering two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and encounters with Ekans and Nosepass. All rewards from Field Research and Timed Research must be claimed by February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time.
