Pokémon TCG Pocket previews new trading feature and gives fresh details on implementation

By SkylarFeb 18,2025

Pokémon TCG Pocket is adding a highly anticipated trading system! This new feature, launching later this month, lets players exchange cards with friends, mimicking real-life trading.

One of the biggest appeals of physical TCGs is the social aspect of trading. Pokémon TCG Pocket aims to replicate this experience digitally. However, there are some key limitations to the initial implementation.

Trading will be restricted to cards of the same rarity (1-4 stars) and only between friends. Crucially, cards used in trades will be consumed – you won't retain a copy after the trade.

The developers plan to monitor the system's performance closely and make adjustments as needed. This iterative approach is encouraging, especially considering some initial concerns. For instance, not all rarity tiers will be tradeable at launch, and the use of consumable currency for trading remains unclear. Further details are expected upon release.

Despite these limitations, this trading system represents a solid first step. The developers' commitment to ongoing assessment and refinement is a positive sign.
