In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the main story quest "Necessary Evil" presents players with some of the game's most challenging moral choices. This guide will help you navigate the quest and understand the implications of siding with Semine or Hashek.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough
After completing the "Back in the Saddle" quest, you can embark on "Necessary Evil." Von Bergow will task Hans and Henry with gathering intelligence from Nebakov Fortress and interrogating a prisoner. The interrogation's outcome will decide whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov Fortress. This walkthrough assumes you choose Semine, where the most critical decisions lie.
Prisoner Interrogation Answers
During the interrogation, you'll need to pass Speech checks or resort to torture to extract information. Here are the Speech check options and their requirements:
- "We’ll put in a good word for you." (20 Impression)
- "Istvan and I are old acquaintances." (20 Impression)
- "Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you." (17 Intimidation)
After the interrogation, you'll uncover the bandit leader's identity and Semine's involvement. When reporting back to von Bergow, you can either implicate Young Semine in the banditry, leading to an attack on the town, or claim no local assistance for the bandits, resulting in an attack on Nebakov.
Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?
Choosing to attack Semine involves riding with the party and making further decisions regarding Hashek. Opting for Nebakov ends the quest immediately as von Bergow deals with the bandits there. While attacking Nebakov avoids bloodshed in Semine, it's morally complex to let Semine escape consequences for the deaths caused by their actions. I chose to attack Semine, feeling it was the right choice despite my familiarity with the town from earlier in the game.
If you decide to attack Semine, ensure you ride with the party to prevent the town's massacre.
Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?
Before departing, you can converse with Hashek, who clearly seeks vengeance against Semine through violent means. Upon arriving at Semine, you must choose between siding with Semine or Hashek:
- To side with Hashek, select "Hashek is right."
- To side with Semine, choose "Olda deserves a trial."
I recommend siding with Semine. While Semine's involvement with the bandits is wrong, Hashek's desire for destruction would lead to more innocent deaths. Given Henry's moral stance, it aligns with preventing Hashek's rampage.
After defeating Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee to advance the quest.
Siding with Hashek results in the town's annihilation. You can also locate Olda in the tower and decide his fate.
Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?
In the quest's final stage, you and Hans report back to von Bergow. You can either remain silent and let Hans speak or have Henry disclose the events at Semine.
I suggest letting Hans do the talking. His diplomatic skills will keep you in von Bergow's favor, leading to plans against Nebakov.
