The anticipation for Shrek 5 has reached new heights with the unveiling of its all-new cast and a brand-new teaser trailer. Fans and even Movie Sonic seem taken aback by Shrek's fresh appearance. In a humorous twist, the Sonic Movie account took to TikTok to offer some "advice for green ogres," showcasing Movie Sonic's own transformation from his initial, widely-criticized live-action design to the much-improved version revealed months later.

IGN was the first to showcase the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018, and the initial response was mixed, with fans critiquing everything from the character's teeth to his human-like fingers. Following significant backlash, director Jeff Fowler committed to redesigning the iconic character, resulting in a much more favorably received version.
While the feedback on Shrek's new look may not be as divisive as Sonic's first live-action debut, Sonic's playful jab has certainly entertained his fanbase. "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," remarked one fan, while another exclaimed, "No way they actually posted this" accompanied by a crying emoji.
The journey of Shrek 5 began with its announcement in 2016, but it wasn't until 2023 that Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its active development, along with plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures has since rescheduled Shrek 5's release to December 23, 2026, swapping its original slot with the Despicable 3 spin-off, Minions 3.
