EA's VP Vince Zampella provided an update on the status of the Need for Speed franchise. With NFS Unbound released over two years ago and no subsequent announcements, Zampella clarified the reason for the silence: Criterion Games, the studio behind Need for Speed, is fully committed to developing the next Battlefield game.
EA's current priority is the new Battlefield title, a project involving four studios and incorporating significant player feedback to avoid repeating the mistakes of the poorly-received Battlefield 2042. This player-centric approach extends to future NFS Unbound content.
It's highly probable that EA will refocus on Need for Speed only after the launch and initial post-release support for the new Battlefield concludes. This delay might prove beneficial. Recent NFS installments haven't met fan expectations; a player-driven reboot, allowing time for past disappointments to fade and nostalgia to build, could be a strategic move.
In short, expect no imminent Need for Speed news.
