Stellar Blade's PC Arrival in 2025
Potential PSN Requirement Raises Concerns
Following hints from SHIFT UP's CFO earlier this year, the developer has confirmed a 2025 PC release. The decision reflects the growing PC gaming market and the success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong. While a specific release date remains unannounced, SHIFT UP plans continued marketing, including a NieR: Automata collaboration DLC and Photo Mode launching November 20th, to maintain the game's popularity.
SHIFT UP's strategy to capitalize on the PC market is clear, aiming for PC sales to surpass console sales. However, the game's status as a Sony-published title, with SHIFT UP acting as a second-party developer since 2023, introduces a potential complication.
The possibility of requiring players to link their Steam accounts to their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts is a significant concern. This would exclude players in regions lacking PSN access, impacting potential sales. Sony's stated reason—ensuring "safe" live-service gameplay—is questioned given its application to single-player titles.
Whether a PSN account will be mandatory for PC remains unclear. Since SHIFT UP retains IP ownership, this requirement isn't guaranteed. However, such a restriction could significantly hamper the game's PC sales potential.
