In the latest round of Stephen King adaptations, a new film version of Cujo is on the horizon. Netflix is set to produce the film, with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment attached as producer. While details are scarce—no writers or directors have been announced, nor any casting rumors—the project is officially underway.
King's novel, originally published in 1981, received its first cinematic adaptation in 1983, directed by Lewis Teague. This cult classic, starring Dee Wallace, follows a mother's desperate struggle to protect her son from a rabid St. Bernard. Trapped in a car with a dead engine, they face both the relentless attack of the infected dog and the threat of heatstroke.

Cujo is just one of many King stories recently enjoying a resurgence on screen. February saw the release of Oz Perkins' adaptation of King's short story, The Monkey. Further additions to the King cinematic universe arriving this year include The Running Man (starring Glen Powell), The Long Walk (directed by JT Mollner and also produced by Lee and Vertigo), and the IT prequel series, Welcome to Derry, on HBO. Additionally, a Prime Video series adaptation of Carrie, helmed by Mike Flanagan, is in the works, comprising eight episodes.
It's a great time to be a Stephen King fan.
