Street Fighter 6 welcomes a new fighter, reigniting player interest! The latest addition to the roster is Mai Shiranui, a beloved character from the Fatal Fury franchise.
Capcom's Street Fighter 6, a resounding success, boasts impressive sales figures – reaching 4.4 million copies sold by December 31, 2024. While some fans felt the game lacked frequent content updates, the introduction of Mai Shiranui has proven to be a significant boost.
Mai Shiranui marks the third character in Street Fighter 6's second season pass. Her arrival dramatically impacted the game's popularity. On her release day, Steam's peak concurrent player count soared past 63,000 (a considerable increase from the previous peak of 24-27,000), marking the game's best performance since May 2024.
Access to Mai Shiranui is granted to Battle Pass owners. World Tour mode allows players to cultivate a relationship with Mai, learning her unique moves before putting them to the test in Battle Hub. A second costume, inspired by her appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, has also been added.
Adding to the excitement, Battle Hub temporarily features Professor Woshige, a renowned fighting game developer and legend, as a playable guest character until March 10th. The update also includes new Master League ranks and rewards.
Capcom released a dedicated trailer showcasing Mai Shiranui's impressive fighting techniques.
