The cameras have officially started rolling on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark this exciting milestone, DC's head honcho, James Gunn, took to Bluesky to share a glimpse of Milly Alcock, known for her role in House of the Dragon, as she steps into the iconic role of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The image Gunn posted features Alcock seated in her actor's chair, offering fans a sneak peek, albeit technically, of the character in action.

Gunn expressed his enthusiasm in the post, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms that Craig Gillespie, acclaimed director of Cruella and I, Tonya, is directing the film, as previously reported last April.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, it's known that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will draw heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The comic follows a standalone narrative featuring an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's assistance to avenge her father's murder at the hands of the villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills. This compelling story was nominated for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards and is highly recommended for those yet to experience it.
The cast for the film is shaping up impressively, with Matthias Schoenaerts set to portray Krem, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. The ensemble also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father, Zor-El, Emily Beecham as her mother, and Jason Momoa, who transitions to the role of Lobo within the DC universe.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in the new DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman, slated for release this summer. Other projects on the horizon include The Batman Part II, which may or may not connect to Gunn's broader cinematic universe, and a rumored Clayface movie directed by Mike Flanagan.
