Katsuhiro Harada, the esteemed producer and director of the Tekken series, recently shared insights into his preferred fighting stick, offering a glimpse into the sentimental value it holds for him. The controller in question, which has become an extension of Harada himself, is none other than the Hori Fighting EDGE, a relic from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era.
Harada's Fightstick: The 'Fighting EDGE'
Inspired by an Olympic Sharpshooter's use of a custom arcade stick during the recent Olympics, fans were curious about Harada's choice of fighting stick. To their surprise, Harada revealed his unwavering loyalty to the Hori Fighting EDGE, a model no longer in production. Despite being released over a decade ago, this stick holds a special place in Harada's heart due to its unique serial number: "00765". In Japanese, these digits phonetically resemble "Namco", the company behind the Tekken series.
The origins of this serial number remain a mystery. It's unclear whether Harada specifically requested it, received it as a gift from Hori, or if it was simply a fortunate coincidence. Nonetheless, the number's sentimental value to Harada is undeniable, as it symbolizes the roots of the company he's dedicated his career to. His affection for these numbers extends beyond the fighting stick, as they are also incorporated into his car's license plate.

Despite the availability of modern, high-end fighting sticks like the Tekken 8 Pro FS Arcade Fight Stick, which Harada used in his EVO 2024 match against Twitch streamer LilyPichu, he continues to favor his old Hori Fighting EDGE. While newer models boast advanced features, the enduring bond Harada shares with his trusty companion is what truly matters to him.
