Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer behind the popular titles Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This move grants Tencent majority ownership.
Tencent's Expanded Holdings

Tencent's stake in Kuro Games has risen to approximately 51.4%, making them the majority shareholder. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now the sole external investor in Kuro Games.
Maintaining Independence
Despite Tencent's controlling interest, Kuro Games assures continued operational independence. This strategy mirrors Tencent's approach with other successful studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games cites the acquisition as fostering a "more stable external environment" and supporting its long-term independence. Tencent has yet to release an official statement.
Kuro Games' Success
Kuro Games has achieved notable success with both Punishing: Gray Raven and Wuthering Waves. Each title has reportedly generated over $120 million USD in revenue and continues to receive regular updates. Wuthering Waves has even earned a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
