PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from the precision they offer. However, some PC games are surprisingly better suited to controllers. Games emphasizing fast-paced action, reflex-based movement, or melee combat often feel more intuitive with a gamepad. This is especially true for titles originating on consoles before making their PC debut.
While many PC releases support both keyboard/mouse and controller setups, the following examples highlight games where a controller provides a superior experience:
Updated January 7, 2025: Recent 2024 releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force generally perform better with keyboard and mouse. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, however, might offer a slightly enhanced experience with a gamepad, though the difference is minimal.
Several upcoming PC game releases show promise for controller superiority:
- Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port resembling Monster Hunter, likely best played with a controller.
- Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently benefits from gamepad controls, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Given the similar combat system to its predecessor, a controller is likely preferable on PC.
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: As a PS5 port, controller input is anticipated to be the primary focus, although keyboard and mouse should still function adequately.
A 2024 Soulslike game has also been added to this list. See the link below for details.
