Lost Soul Aside's PC Release to Forgo Controversial PSN Linking Requirement
Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will reportedly launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market significantly, as PSN support is unavailable in over 100 countries.
Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony publishes the game for both PS5 and PC, the company's previous mandate of mandatory PSN linking for PC titles faced significant player backlash. This requirement severely limited sales and player reach in regions lacking PSN support.
The removal of the PSN linking requirement for Lost Soul Aside's PC version was initially noticed on SteamDB. The game's Steam page initially listed PSN linking as a requirement, but this was swiftly removed within a day of its December 2024 debut.
A Shift in Sony's PC Strategy?
This marks only the second time Sony has reversed its PSN linking policy for a PC title, the first being Helldivers 2. This suggests a potential softening of their approach to PC releases. The decision likely stems from a desire to maximize Lost Soul Aside's reach and sales, especially considering the poor PC performance of other PlayStation titles following the implementation of mandatory PSN linking. God of War Ragnarok, for example, saw significantly fewer Steam players compared to its predecessor.
