According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy. The expansion was intended to be released this year, alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came this week, with sources citing that the content volume did not justify the planned price tag. Warner Bros. did not provide a comment on the matter to Bloomberg.
This cancellation comes amidst a period of significant restructuring within Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier in the year, the company made the tough decision to cancel a planned Wonder Woman game, which led to the closure of the development studio, Monolith Productions. Other studios affected include WB San Diego and the MultiVersus developer, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs at Rocksteady occurred just last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the broader Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has publicly declared that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is a top priority, reflecting their strategy to focus on fewer but more significant franchises. The original game has achieved impressive sales, surpassing 30 million copies sold.
