BB60FPS Patch Takedown: Sony's Move Raises Questions

By ChristianFeb 25,2025

The creator of a popular Bloodborne 60fps patch has received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony. Lance McDonald, a well-known video game modder, announced on Twitter that Sony Interactive Entertainment requested the removal of links to his patch, which he subsequently complied with.

McDonald highlighted the irony, referencing a past encounter with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida where he jokingly mentioned creating the Bloodborne 60fps mod. Yoshida's reaction was reportedly laughter.

Bloodborne's status as a highly sought-after title remains a significant point of discussion within the gaming community. Despite its critical and commercial success on PS4, Sony has yet to release an official next-gen patch, remaster, or sequel, leaving fans yearning for a 60fps experience.

Recently, advancements in PS4 emulation, specifically via ShadPS4, have enabled near-remaster quality gameplay at 60fps on PC, as highlighted by Digital Foundry. Whether this breakthrough influenced Sony's DMCA action remains unclear; IGN has reached out to Sony for comment.

Earlier this month, Yoshida offered his perspective on Bloodborne's continued absence from next-gen platforms in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. He speculated that Hidetaka Miyazaki, Bloodborne's creator, highly values the game and prefers to avoid anyone else altering it, even for improvements. Yoshida clarified this was merely his personal theory and not based on inside information.

Despite Miyazaki's frequent deflection of Bloodborne questions in interviews (often citing FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership), he did acknowledge in February 2023 that the game would benefit from a release on more modern hardware. The game's future, however, remains uncertain nearly a decade after its initial release.
