Mastering Enemy Duels in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

While *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* may be known for its relentless battles against hordes of enemies, the return of duels adds a thrilling dimension to the gameplay. Here’s how these intense one-on-one showdowns work in the game.

What Are Duels in Dynasty Warriors: Origins?

Duels, a beloved feature from *Dynasty Warriors 4*, make a triumphant return in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* after more than two decades. You won't encounter duels right away; they become available starting in Chapter 2. However, you can't challenge just any soldier. Only high-ranking and prominent enemy officers can be called out for a duel. When you spot one of these worthy adversaries, you can initiate a duel by pressing the R1 and L1 buttons simultaneously, but you must act quickly as the window of opportunity is brief.

Once the duel begins, an arena of soldiers will encircle you, setting the stage for a focused one-on-one confrontation. Unlike regular combat, a duel features a unique meter at the top of the screen that represents both you and your opponent. Each successful strike you land will advance your portion of the meter, while your opponent's hits will push theirs forward. The objective is to fill the meter completely by dealing enough damage to your opponent.

Your starting position on the meter isn't influenced by your health, but rather by your overall morale. If you're on a winning streak, your bar will start out larger. Conversely, if you're struggling, your opponent's bar will be more dominant. If the battle is neck-and-neck, both bars will be equal. In a duel, it's crucial to observe your opponent's movements, dodge and parry effectively, and maintain a safe distance if they unleash a Battle Art. Remember, time is of the essence, but there's no need to rush recklessly into the fray.

Victory in a duel in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* rewards you with a significant damage boost against your opponent and a substantial increase in morale. However, defeat comes at a high cost: you'll suffer considerable damage, and your army's morale will plummet, which can be disastrous in the later stages of a battle. If neither side emerges victorious, the duel ends without penalties, and the game resumes as normal. However, some duels are inescapable; losing these results in an automatic mission failure, while winning them guarantees victory in the battle. Initiating a duel can dramatically shift the tide of battle, but underestimating your opponent could lead to your downfall.

And that’s the essence of dueling in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*.

*Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
