"Netflix to Introduce AI-Generated Ad Breaks in 2026"

By NatalieMay 21,2025

Netflix has announced that it will introduce AI-generated advertising, including pause ads, within its programming on the ad-supported tier starting in 2026. This development, reported by Media Play News, leaves many questions unanswered about how these ads will be targeted. Will they be personalized based on viewers' watch history, or will they relate to the content currently being watched? Currently, details on the backend operations and presentation of these ads remain scarce, but one thing is certain: they are on their way.

At a recent Upfront event for advertisers in New York City, Netflix's President of Advertising, Amy Reinhard, highlighted the company's unique strengths. "Either they have great technology, or they have great entertainment," she stated. "Our superpower has always been the fact that we have both." Reinhard emphasized that Netflix's ad-supported tier subscribers engage significantly with the platform, averaging 41 hours of viewing per month. This translates to approximately three hours of ads per month, a substantial amount even without the integration of AI. However, by 2026, these ads will indeed be powered by artificial intelligence.

Reinhard also noted that when compared to competitors, Netflix maintains higher viewer attention throughout their content, including mid-roll ads. She proudly stated, "And even more impressive, members pay as much attention to mid-roll ads as they do to the shows and movies themselves." Despite the excitement around this technological advancement, Netflix has not yet disclosed an official implementation date for these AI-generated ads.
