Path of Exile Writer Apologizes, Delays 13.26 For 20.0 Release

Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has apologized for delaying Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update, originally slated for late October 2024, then mid-February 2025. The delay is attributed to the unexpected challenges encountered with Path of Exile 2's launch.

GGG had initially planned to continue supporting Path of Exile 1 alongside the early access release of Path of Exile 2. However, the Path of Exile 1 team was reassigned to address critical issues in Path of Exile 2's endgame before its December 2024 launch. These issues included crashes and balance problems.

In a video message, game director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation. He admitted that they underestimated the time required to resolve Path of Exile 2's problems and the impact of diverting resources from Path of Exile 1. He stated that prioritizing the stability of Path of Exile 2, which experienced a delayed launch and subsequent issues, was the necessary course of action.

The 3.26 update for Path of Exile 1 remains on hold until Path of Exile 2 reaches version 0.2.0, with a potential extension of a couple of weeks thereafter. No firm release date for the Path of Exile 1 update has been given.

Rogers expressed sincere apologies for the situation, admitting overconfidence in the studio's ability to manage two games concurrently. He emphasized that GGG is learning from this experience and developing strategies for better resource allocation in the future. Path of Exile 2's early access launch on December 6th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S was ultimately a success, achieving remarkable player numbers.
