Mass Effect's Jennifer Hale Hopes for Original Cast Reunion in Amazon Series
Jennifer Hale, the iconic voice of FemShep in the original Mass Effect trilogy, expressed her enthusiasm for Amazon's upcoming live-action adaptation. She revealed a desire to participate in the show and advocated for the inclusion of as many original voice actors as possible.
Amazon secured the rights to adapt the Mass Effect games in 2021, and the series is now under development at Amazon MGM Studios. The project boasts a notable team, including Mass Effect game producer Michael Gamble, former Marvel Television producer Karim Zreik, film producer Avi Arad, and Fast & Furious 9 writer Daniel Casey.
The challenge of adapting Mass Effect's branching narrative and customizable protagonist, Commander Shepard, is significant. The player's choices dramatically impact the story and character fates, making casting decisions particularly complex. Fans have their own established versions of Shepard, creating a potential hurdle for the show's creators.
In a recent Eurogamer interview, Hale, whose extensive voice acting credits include the female Commander Shepard, voiced her eagerness to contribute to the new series. She emphasized the importance of reuniting the original voice cast, highlighting their exceptional talent and suggesting that overlooking them would be a missed opportunity. She stated, "The voice acting community are some of the most brilliant performers I've ever met [...] So I'm ready for the smart production company that stops overlooking that gold mine.”
Hale's Wish for a FemShep Return
Hale naturally expressed a preference for portraying the FemShep character she originated, but clarified her willingness to accept any role. Her excitement extends to the possibility of returning for the next Mass Effect video game currently in development at BioWare.
The Mass Effect series boasts a memorable ensemble of voice actors and celebrities, contributing to the immersive quality of BioWare's sci-fi world. The return of actors like Brandon Keener (Garrus Vakarian), Raphael Sbarge (Kaidan Alenko), or even Hale herself would undoubtedly delight long-time fans of the game.
