Excitement is building as Guns Undarkness, the latest project led by the renowned Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio composer Shoji Meguro, is set to unveil a free demo during the upcoming Steam Next Fest. This thrilling endeavor also features the creative talents of Ghost in the Shell character artist Ilya Kuvshino and the acclaimed rapper Lotus Juice, known for his contributions to Persona 3.

Shoji Meguro, a veteran at Atlus since 1995, has been the mastermind behind the captivating soundtracks of the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. In 2021, he ventured into indie game development while continuing his collaborations with Atlus. Since parting ways with the company, Meguro has been channeling his skills into a sci-fi stealth action JRPG, which will be published under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.

Guns Undarkness first caught the gaming world's attention at the Indie Live Expo Winter 2021, followed by a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2022 that surpassed its stretch goals. Gamers can get a taste of the action with the free demo launching at Steam Next Fest on February 24, 2025. The game is slated for an early access release later this year.

According to its Steam page, Guns Undarkness is a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game plunges players into a world teetering on the edge of collapse. You'll take on the role of a member of a private military company, embarking on missions with your allies to unravel the mysteries threatening humanity.

The gameplay of Guns Undarkness splits into two key components: stealth and combat. In stealth mode, players can navigate the environment undetected, gaining a tactical advantage in battles. The combat system is turn-based, requiring players to strategically command their characters and utilize a variety of firearms to emerge victorious.

The demo for Guns Undarkness will offer around 20 minutes of gameplay, encompassing a tutorial on basic controls, the battle system, weapon mechanics, and strategies for the game's early stages. The full game is expected to hit Early Access in Spring 2025, promising about 10 hours of immersive playtime on PC. While no specific release date has been announced, anticipation continues to grow for this innovative JRPG.
