Rebel Wolves studio has unveiled details about their upcoming vampire RPG, highlighting the central theme of duality in their protagonist. Project director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz describes the character as a modern-day Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a concept largely unexplored in video games. This duality, he believes, will introduce a unique layer of surrealism rarely seen in the genre.
Tomaszkiewicz also acknowledges the challenge of balancing the character's human and supernatural sides. Players will experience periods where the protagonist is a completely ordinary human, lacking superpowers, creating a compelling contrast with their vampiric alter ego. However, the team is mindful of the potential for player confusion, as many RPG conventions are deeply ingrained in player expectations.
The developers face the constant dilemma of innovating while respecting established genre norms. Tomaszkiewicz uses Kingdom Come: Deliverance's controversial schnapps-dependent save system as a cautionary tale, illustrating the potential backlash from even seemingly minor deviations from established mechanics. Finding the right balance between innovation and player comfort is paramount.
The gameplay premiere is slated for Summer 2025.
