Concerns about weapon design similarity in Monster Hunter: Wilds, following criticism of Monster Hunter: World, have been addressed by Director Yuya Tokuda. Tokuda clarified that unlike World, where weapon appearance varied based on monster materials but retained a core design, Wilds features uniquely designed weapons.
This directly contrasts with Monster Hunter: World, where even highly upgraded weapons often shared similar designs. The image below illustrates this similarity, showcasing the final Aqua and Pukei-Pukei Sword and Shield, and the final Bone and Jyuratodus Long Swords. These were the most advanced versions available at launch.
