Concord: A Hero Shooter with a Robust Roadmap

Concord Season 1 Launches October 2024

Sony and Firewalk Studios' Concord launches August 23rd for PS5 and PC, and the developers have unveiled an ambitious post-launch content plan. Unlike many hero shooters, Concord eschews the traditional battle pass model, prioritizing a rewarding base game experience. Progression, character leveling, and mission completion unlock meaningful rewards from day one.

Concord's Roadmap: Beyond Launch Day

Game director Ryan Ellis emphasizes that launch is just the beginning. Regular seasonal updates will introduce a steady stream of new content, including:

  • New characters (Freegunners)
  • Maps and worlds
  • Game modes
  • Story expansions
  • Features

Season 1: The Tempest (October 2024)

Concord's first season, "The Tempest," arrives in October, bringing:

  • A new Freegunner
  • A fresh map
  • New Freegunner variants
  • Cosmetics and rewards
  • Weekly cinematic vignettes expanding the Northstar crew's story

An in-game store will also debut, offering purely cosmetic items that don't affect gameplay. These are supplemental to the rewards earned through normal progression.

Season 2 and Beyond

Season 2 is slated for January 2025, with Firewalk Studios committed to regular seasonal updates throughout Concord's first year.

Ellis highlights the "Crew Builder" system, allowing players to customize their five-Freegunner teams (with up to three copies of any variant). This encourages diverse team compositions, as each Freegunner is designed for high DPS and effectiveness in combat. Strategic team building unlocks Crew Bonuses, offering advantages like increased mobility, reduced recoil, and faster cooldowns.

Instead of traditional roles (Tank, Support), Concord uses six roles—Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden—defined by their impact on the match, such as area control, long-range advantage, or flanking.
