Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The gaming industry has seen a surge in remakes of beloved classics, with titles like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 getting the modern treatment. Now, it appears that the original Devil May Cry might join this prestigious list, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has expressed a desire to revisit and remake the game.In a video posted on his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya engaged with fans about remakes and sequels. When posed with the question of what he would do with a DMC remake, he enthusiastically responded, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001

Originally conceived as Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry took a dramatic turn from its initial concept, leading Capcom to launch it as a standalone title in 2001. Kamiya, reflecting on the game's inception nearly 25 years later, revealed a personal story that fueled its creation. He shared that in 2000, a painful breakup left him in a state of depression, a feeling that ultimately inspired the dark and intense atmosphere of DMC.

Kamiya has a unique approach to his past work, admitting that he never replays his games post-release. However, when he occasionally encounters gameplay clips of DMC, he recognizes its age and the outdated design elements from 24 years ago. If given the chance to remake it, he is clear about his intentions: to build the game from scratch, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
While the idea of remaking DMC is not at the forefront of his mind, Kamiya is open to the possibility. He confidently stated, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." This statement not only showcases his readiness to tackle the project but also his creative process, which thrives on actual project development.
In addition to DMC, Kamiya also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe, another of his notable works. With these announcements, fans of Kamiya's innovative storytelling and game design eagerly anticipate the potential return of these cherished titles in a modernized form.
