Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's Patch 4.0 nerfs are being rolled back after significant player backlash. Saber Interactive, the game's developer, announced hotfix 4.1, scheduled for October 24th, which will revert the "most pressing" balance changes. This decision follows negative Steam reviews and widespread player frustration.
The initial nerfs, implemented in Patch 4.0, aimed to increase enemy spawns, making the game more challenging. However, this resulted in increased difficulty across all levels, not just the intended higher difficulties. In response to this feedback, Saber Interactive is significantly reducing Extremis enemy spawns on lower difficulties and slightly reducing them on the highest difficulty (Ruthless). Additionally, player armor on Ruthless difficulty will receive a 10% boost, and bots will deal 30% more damage to bosses.
Hotfix 4.1 also includes substantial buffs to Bolt weapons, addressing player concerns about their underperformance. These buffs range from a 5% increase for the Heavy Bolter to a 20% increase for the Auto Bolt Rifle. Specific weapon damage increases are detailed below:
- Auto Bolt Rifle: +20%
- Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Heavy Bolt Rifle: +15%
- Stalker Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Marksman Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Instigator Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Bolt Sniper Rifle: +12.5%
- Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Occulus Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Heavy Bolter: +5%
- Heavy Bolter: +5% (Note: likely a typo, but retained for accuracy)
Saber Interactive is also planning to launch public test servers around early 2025 to gather feedback and improve future balance updates. The developers will continue monitoring player feedback after Patch 4.1's release to ensure the "Lethal" difficulty remains appropriately challenging.
