Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to offer players an expansive level of freedom, a significant departure from the studio's previous linear game designs. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Elden Ring, the developers are keen on integrating similar open-world exploration mechanics. Set on a single vast planet, players will embark on a journey to unravel the enigmas of a lost civilization and delve into the intricacies of a new religion, which plays a pivotal role in the game's narrative. While the exact adherence to the traditional open-world format remains to be seen, it's clear that the project is steering away from the studio's conventional structured gameplay.

In a bold move, The Heretic Prophet marks the studio's inaugural venture where players will navigate the game world solo, without the aid of companions or allies. As Neil Druckmann explains, the game aims to immerse players in a profound sense of isolation within an uncharted universe, while simultaneously exploring deep themes of faith and religion. The setting is an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is on this mysterious world that bounty hunter Jordan Moon finds herself, fulfilling her contract.

Druckmann further reveals that the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has been influenced by iconic titles such as Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This suggests a shift towards a more fragmented, self-directed storytelling approach, where players are encouraged to piece together the narrative themselves, rather than relying on conventional hints.

Announced at TGA 2024, the game has yet to reveal a specific release date, leaving fans eagerly anticipating further updates on this intriguing new title.
