After 15 years at Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty multiplayer creative director Greg Reisdorf has departed. His tenure spanned numerous Call of Duty titles, beginning with Modern Warfare 3 (2011). Reisdorf played a pivotal role in the development of Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer, including its live seasonal content.
Reisdorf's journey with Sledgehammer Games, which launched in 2009, encompassed key contributions to several Call of Duty installments. His early work on Modern Warfare 3 included memorable moments like the Soap MacTavish gurney scene in the "Blood Brothers" mission. He also significantly shaped the "boots on the ground" era of Call of Duty, contributing to the gameplay mechanics of Advanced Warfare, such as boost jumps and tactical reloads. He openly discussed his reservations about Advanced Warfare's "Pick 13" system, expressing a preference for reward systems that don't compromise essential loadout choices.
His contributions extended to Call of Duty: WW2, where he helped rectify the initially restrictive weapon class system, and Call of Duty: Vanguard, where he favored the design of traditional three-lane maps over strict military realism.
His most recent work involved the multiplayer maps and live seasons for 2023's Modern Warfare 3. This included revisiting and enhancing classic Modern Warfare 2 maps and creating over 20 new game modes for the game's post-launch support. He specifically highlighted the Season 1 Snowfight and Infectious Holiday modes as examples of his contributions. Reisdorf's departure marks the end of a significant chapter in his career, but he hints at future endeavors within the gaming industry.
